Kaieteur News- Two Chinese nationals were robbed of over $1 million, by two masked and armed men on Saturday evening, at their supermarket, located in Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
The incident took place around 21:30 hrs. at Lot 525, Section 10, Block X, Great Diamond. The victims have been identified as Qing Yi Cue and Xian Cheng Xie, both of the same address. An estimate of $1,100,000, an IPhone 12 Pro Max valued $124,000 and $200,000 worth in phone cards were stolen.
According to police, the victims were at the supermarket counter when the robbery occurred. “The victims were at the counter when the two perpetrators entered the supermarket—one dressed in blue denim jeans, orange boots, a black hoodie, and a black hat, while the other was wearing short green pants and a black hoodie,” police said.
One of the armed bandits pointed a silver gun at the security guard’s head, threw him on the floor, and forced him to lie face down. The suspects then ordered the two Chinese nationals to do the same before stealing the aforementioned items from the cash registers.
The suspects fled the scene on foot in a northern direction. Investigations revealed that there are CCTV cameras inside the supermarket, some of which were viewed, but the scene has not yet been processed, and statements have not yet been taken, police said.
