Kaieteur Sports – The Canal #1 Polder agro-processing facility was officially commissioned on Saturday April 18, 2026 by Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha, marking a significant milestone in Guyana’s continued drive toward a modern, value-added agricultural economy.
Under the leadership of General Manager Teshawna Lall, the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC), an agency operating under the Ministry of Agriculture, has spearheaded the development and operational readiness of the facility, which represents a key investment in strengthening the country’s agro-processing capacity.

The facility is designed to transform raw agricultural produce into high-value products such as juices, pulps, green seasonings, and dehydrated fruits. It is expected to significantly reduce post-harvest losses while improving product quality, extending shelf life, and enhancing market readiness for both local consumption and export markets.
The commissioning aligns with the national development vision of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who has consistently emphasized agro-processing as a cornerstone of economic diversification and rural development. His administration continues to prioritize investments that enable farmers and agro-processors to transition from primary production into competitive, value-added industries with strong regional and international potential.

General Manager of the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC), Teshawna Lall looks on as a demonstration is done at the new agro-processing facility.
In this context, the Canal #1 Polder facility stands as a strategic piece of agro-industrial infrastructure, strengthening value chains and creating new opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and export expansion across the sector.
The Guyana Marketing Corporation continues to play a central role in facilitating market access, providing technical support, and advancing non-traditional agriculture. The successful commissioning of this facility underscores its ongoing mandate to support sectoral transformation and sustainable growth.
Farmers, agro-processors, and entrepreneurs interested in utilising the Canal #1 Polder Agro-Processing Facility are encouraged to contact the Facilities Manager or the Guyana Marketing Corporation for further information on access and operational support. The GMC can be reached at +592 220-5522 or +592 226-8255 for coordination and inquiries.
The commissioning of the Canal #1 Polder Agro-Processing Facility reinforces Guyana’s commitment to building a resilient, competitive, and diversified agricultural sector—one that continues to expand opportunity, strengthen food security, and drive long-term economic growth.
