-as Fruta and Tigers featured in goalless standoff in GFF Elite League Season VII
Kaieteur Sports- Stiff competition proved to be the only victor on Sunday at the National Training Centre ground during the latest fixtures of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League Season VII.
Ann’s Grove United FC had to settle for a thrilling 3-3 draw despite holding a one-goal advantage at the end of the first half. Meanwhile, in the second match of the week-three fixtures, Fruta Conquerors FC displayed defensive resilience, resulting in a goalless stalemate.
Ann’s Grove United entered the match eager to rebound from their disappointing previous outing. Their intent was evident from the outset, as they surged ahead with two goals within the opening 20 minutes against Region Three-based Den Amstel FC.
The crowd-built anticipation as Ryan Seales broke the deadlock, skillfully finishing off an exceptional buildup to give his team an early lead. Nine minutes later, Yohance Francis doubled Ann’s Grove’s advantage with a stunning strike, rattling Den Amstel’s net for his first goal of the match.
Facing a 2-0 deficit, Den Amstel clawed their way back just before halftime. Anthony Benn provided the spark, curling a well-placed shot past the Ann’s Grove goalkeeper to reduce the deficit. The momentum shift carried into the second half, and within three minutes of the restart, Deon Alfred capitalized on a set play, maneuvering into the box before slotting home a clever finish to bring Den Amstel level at 2-2.
Den Amstel continued to press forward, and in the 76th minute, Benn secured his brace with a beautiful strike to give his side the lead for the first time in the match. Ann’s Grove, now trailing 3-2, threw everything forward in search of an equalizer. Den Amstel’s defence stood firm, repelling their advances as the clock wound down. However, deep into stoppage time (90+3), Francis once again delivered in a crucial moment, breaking through Den Amstel’s backline to rescue a point for Ann’s Grove with a dramatic late goal.
In the evening’s second encounter, Western Tigers were unable to secure their second win of the season as Fruta Conquerors held them to a goalless draw. It was a battle dominated by defensive discipline, with both teams struggling to carve out clear-cut opportunities. As witnessed earlier, securing a victory proved to be a challenge akin to threading a needle in the dark, and after 90 minutes of evenly matched play, the contest ended in a nil-all stalemate.
The action continues this weekend at the NTC with two exciting doubleheaders set to ignite the fourth weekend of play.
The championship is made possible through the generous support of Guyana Beverage Inc., Turbo Energy Drink, Blue Water Shipping, and NAMILCO.
