Kaieteur Sports- In a proactive effort to foster a safer and more responsible sporting environment, the National Sports Commission (NSC), in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), hosted a crucial meeting last Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The meeting was deemed a mandatory engagement for all executive members of national federations and associations in Guyana, with a primary focus on criminal law, particularly the Sexual Offences Act.

Leading the discussions were Assistant DPP Tiffini Lyken and the DPP’s Communications Officer, Liz Rahaman, who provided key legal insights relevant to the sporting landscape.

According to Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, the NSC viewed this initiative as a significant step in reinforcing its commitment to raising awareness and strengthening the fight against domestic and sexual violence.

A key focus of the meeting was the protection of women and children, ensuring that all stakeholders within the sporting fraternity are well-informed and equipped to contribute to a safe and just sporting community.

With global attention increasingly directed toward safeguarding individuals in sports, the forum provided an invaluable opportunity for sports administrators to understand their legal obligations and responsibilities.
