“It’s never too late to start on your dream, never give up, and never lose hope, have faith in yourself.”
Kaieteur News-Sometimes the little encouragement, which we can give to someone can make a big difference in their life for the better and Yandara Sophia Singh, is living proof.
The young entrepreneur who hails from Lethem, Region Nine is the proud founder and owner of Yandara’s Glam Spa, a newly opened spa venture which offers a variety of service such as waxing, massage, eyelash extensions, facials and moon baths, just to name a few.
Located at Toucan Drive 142, Phase Two, Lethem, Yandara’s Glam Spa officially opened its doors on February 3, 2025, but according to Singh, it initially started on October 24, 2024.
Sharing how her business journey began, Singh said that it was all inspired by her wonderful friend, Antonia.
Recalling the conversation, Singh shared, “Well one day, she came to visit our family and we were ‘gyaffing’ about massage and waxing then my mother said to Antonia ‘Yandara love to do waxing’ and she turned and said to me, Yandara since you love to do waxing, you should do the course and start your own little business because persons are always asking for a waxer.”
After giving much thought to the idea and discussing with her family, Singh mentioned that the following day, she contacted back her friend and asked that she sign her up for the course.
“Since here in Lethem, it is not so familiarized with these kinds of beauty care services, I decided to embark on the journey where I attended classes day and night in neighbouring Brazil,” she recalled.
Remembering those days, Singh admitted that at times, it was very hard, up to the point where she wanted to give up the training, but with the help from God and his guidance on the journey, encouragement from her parents, sisters and boyfriend, Singh said she was able to pull through those difficult times.
Grateful for the experience, Singh says that now she sees that her hard work is paying off. She highlighted the tremendous support she has been receiving since opening her spa.
“As I attend to my customers, I gain more courage in my work because when I see those happy smiles on their faces and I feel satisfied and honoured,” she expressed.
Asked what it means to provide such a service to that remote part of the country, the young entrepreneur said it is an “honour” because she allowed herself to provide a service that is much needed in her region.
Relatively new to the industry, Singh said that as time progresses, she would like to expand her services because “there are always something new to learn”.
Impacting her region and community in a positive way through her spa business, Singh would like to encourage young aspiring entrepreneurs that “it’s never too late to start on your dream, never give up, and never lose hope and faith in yourself.”
Our featured entrepreneur is of the view that to help grow and expand small businesses in our society, “We need to invest more in them by advertising more so it can reach more customers.”
