Unlicensed Chinese national remanded for causing motorcyclist’s death
(Kaieteur News) – A Chinese national, Zeng Huaqing, has been remanded to prison for causing the death of 24-year-old Christopher Thomas, called “Barn,” at Coverden, East Bank Demerara.
Thomas was riding his motorcycle with a pillion rider around 9:00 p.m. on August 5 when he was struck by a minivan.

Zeng was detained following the accident, and police later found that he was not licensed to drive in Guyana. The minivan was also unlicensed and uninsured.
He subsequently appeared at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded to prison.
Police said Thomas met with the accident around 9:10 p.m. when the van, driven by Zeng, collided with his motorcycle.
“Initial enquiries revealed that the motor van was proceeding north along the western driving lane of Coverden Public Road and, upon approaching the entrance to a worksite compound, allegedly turned right into the compound without stopping,” police stated.
The police added that the van collided with the motorcycle, which was travelling south along the eastern lane at an alleged high rate of speed.
