A foray by young boys into picking fruits from a resident’s premises, something all young boys engage in, ended horribly, horribly wrong for Shaquille John. Caught, trying to scale the resident’s fence which was wired, Shaquille’s life, it appeared was snuffed out. It would be interesting to know how the other friends scaled the fence unscathed.
But the bizarre episode does not end there. The owner of the property on seeing Shaquille’s body hanging on the fence, decided to take matters into his own hands…burning the body and burying it. Shocking! Callous! Outrageous!
The bizarreness continues for months with his friends, who all went fruit picking, knowing what happened to Shaquille but saying nothing, until one spilled the beans which brought untold heartbreak to the family.
This sad episode opens the question does a property owner have the right to protect his property in this manner?
My condolences to the grieving mother and other family members.
