Kaieteur Sports – The West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Senior Men’s Football League commenced with a bang on Saturday, although it experienced a slight delay in the beginning. Once underway, the tournament treated fans to an exhilarating doubleheader. Slingerz FC dominated Wales FC with a jaw-dropping 11-0 victory, while Uitvlugt suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Leguan FC.
Sunday’s action at the Tuchen Community Centre ground was no less exciting, featuring another captivating doubleheader. In the first match, Pouderoyen FC displayed their confidence and edged past Eagles FC with a narrow 1-0 victory, courtesy of Dwayne St. Kitts’ goal in the 74th minute, securing their first win of the competition.
In the second match of the day between Crane Rovers FC and Belle West FC turned out to be an absolute spectacle. Crane Rovers took the lead in the 14th minute, thanks to a brilliant goal from Marvin Griffith. Belle West fought back tenaciously and Pablo Singh netted an equalizer (24′). Crane Rovers responded with Kwesi Henry’s goal (34′), making it 2-1 in their favour. However, Belle West managed to level the score again just before halftime, with an impressive goal from Adrian Webster (39′).
The intensity continued in the second half, with both teams battling for dominance. Crane Rovers snatched the lead again as Christon Archer scored a beauty in the 47th minute, making it 3-2 in their favour. Belle West refused to back down, Singh (60′) and Webster (66′) struck back, each with exceptional goals, putting Belle West ahead 4-3.
The game took a dramatic turn when Tyler Wharton of Crane Rovers scored his first goal in the 70th minute, leveling the score at 4-4 with around twenty minutes left before the final whistle. Despite valiant efforts from both sides and a few unsuccessful goal-scoring attempts, the match ultimately ended in a thrilling draw.
