Kaieteur News – With $5.5 billion earmarked for the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs is looking to reconstruct the facility for an estimated cost of $1,659,373,242.
During the recent opening of bids at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office it was revealed that a total of 42 contractors have applied for the contract. The works, this publication understands, have been divided into 10 Lots.
It was reported that the project forms part of the government’s overall reform and modernization programme for the Prison Service, which is targeting the transformation of the prison form a penal to a correctional institution.
