(Kaieteur News) – Four persons have been arrested following the beating to death of ‘Curry’ (only name) at Honey Camp Landing, Region Seven, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said.
In a statement, police said the incident occurred on Tuesday between 05:30h and 07:00h.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, who had no fixed place of abode and did odd jobs at Honey Camp Landing, was allegedly confronted by several males and accused of stealing,” police said.
The deceased was allegedly assaulted by the suspects during a confrontation. Police said a belt was placed around his neck and he was dragged on the ground. It was reported that the man was also dealt several lashes with a spade, cutlass and pieces of wood on several parts of his body. In addition, it is alleged that an acidic substance was thrown on him.
‘Curry’ was abandoned on the sand near an abandoned shop and the police were summoned. On their arrival, the “motionless body of the deceased was observed lying face down in the sand.”
“The body was examined and what appeared to be abrasions and burn marks were seen about his body,” the GPF said.
Statements were obtained from several persons and four suspects are assisting with investigations. Police are on the hunt for two other suspects.
