BCB launches Diors Bits and Pieces Under23 Cricket Tournament

– Foster hails unmatched development in Berbice

Kaieteur Sports – The Berbice Cricket Board on Sunday launched another cricket tournament for youths in the ancient county. BCB President Hilbert Foster visited the Bush Lot Sports Ground to officially launch the tournament in the presence of Region Five Vice Chairman Rion Peters and a representative of sponsors Dior Bits and Pieces, Roshel DeVeira.

The tournament would be known as the BCB/ Diors Bits and Pieces under23 and would be opened to players born on or after the first of September 2000. The knockout tournament would start as soon as the weather improves and grounds are in better conditions. Foster hailed the launching as another great day in the remarkable progress been made in the county. The under23 tournament launching means that the only age group that is not covered by sponsorship is the under21 level as the BCB has for this year obtained sponsors for the under11, under13, under17, under19 and under23 levels.

The BCB boss has committed to obtaining an under21 tournament sponsor very shortly as the board pushes ahead with its cricketing development drive.

The tournament is expected to be an exciting one with players like Kelvon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Jonathan Rampersaud, Isai Thorne, Shamal Angel, Rampertab Ramnauth, Salim Khan, Afri Kadir, Afraz Budhoo, Aviskhar Persaud and Sanjay Algoo been involved.

Among the teams expected to play in the tournament would be Bush Lot United, Achievers, Cotton Tree, Tucber Park, Guymine, Albion, Rose Hall Canje, RHT Namilco Thunderbolt Flour, Upper Corentyne and Port Mourant. Matches would be played fifty overs per side and the winning team would take home seventy thousand dollars and a trophy.

Foster reassured the sponsor that the tournament would be well organised and the business well promoted. He also urged the residents in the region to support the company in the future to ensure that they continue to sponsor in the future. Special mention was made of Bush Lot Sports Club President Rajiv Kishun for the role he played in obtaining the sponsorship from Diors Managing Director Sandie Ross, who is also the Information Officer of the RDC in Region Five. Foster stated that it was hearting to receive support for cricket from officials of clubs.

Ms Roshel DeVeira, representative of Ms Ross, stated that her company was happy to support the work of such a progressive cricket board and expressed confidence that the tournament would be a competitive one.
