Kaieteur News – A 20-year-old man was on Friday remanded to prison for allegedly stabbing his father to death on Father’s Day.
The accused, Yeison Hernandez of ‘C’ Field, Sophia appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on June 30, 2023, where he was charged with murder. He was not required to enter a plea for the indictable offence when he made his first court appearance before Chief Magistrate (acting) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.
Kaietuer News reported that on June 18, 2023 at ‘C’ Field, Sophia Eyone Hernandez was stabbed to death at around 23:30 hrs.
The police had reported that the deceased, who is a Venezuelan national, and his son who allegedly suffers from a mental illness had an argument over food that day. Investigators were told that the argument escalated when the suspect reportedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed the victim to the back of his left thigh.
An alarm was raised by the victim’s wife causing the suspect to be detained with the knife in his possession. Reports are that Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) from the Alberttown Fire Service responded to the scene, and Hernandez was pronounced dead.
Police reported that on examining the man’s body, it was observed that he suffered one stab wound to the back left thigh and no other wound was observed on his body.
The suspect was arrested and an investigation was subsequently launched.
