Dear Editor,
Substandard, hurry-work and doing the bare minimum are legacies of PPP/C governments.
In his usual fanfare style of having school students lined up to greet, the President and his family rushed to open a park in New Amsterdam. Esplanade has been suffering and craving funds for enhancement, yet another park.
Why make another when the other can be improved. The answer is petty politics. Esplanade is seen as PNC and therefore by all means, it will be ignored in the One Guyana country ruled by PPPC. One can guess what will happen- money will be spent to maintain this one while Esplanade will be starved of resources.
That being said recreation parks are needed in Guyana since there is a massive shortage. A closer examination would show that this project was ill-conceived in many ways and has no durability for long term use. Lights: post lights are common across the world for decorating walkways. For public uses, the very strong ones are used. In Guyana, the weakest and cheapest ones are used. The ones used are usually found at residential places. Who are the suppliers?
Green grass mats: Why waste all that money to put green grass mats to create a good impression on the opening and if one is to go today, you will see nothing of the sort. Is it the rush to get votes from New Amsterdam? Placement of seats: there are some seats placed along GTU road. It is a laughing stock that instead of the seats facing road, it is facing persons’ homes. This is a direct evasion of privacy. What a recreation facility could have that the ones being built don’t have:
What exactly is Guyana’s oil revenue being spent on? Is it being spent on projects that enrich only PPP/C comrades turn contractors?
How much money is spent on these substandard projects?
Regards,
J. John
