Dear Editor,
While an apology was issued, the media house was labelled a ‘political rag’ (Demerarawaves April 20). So an apology is given on one hand but just as quickly taken back with the label.
That label was also under the previous administration and the one before. And so government media houses continue to be heaped with scorn and painted black, depending who holds the reins of government.
It is a dilemma. You are looked on favourably by the governing side but unfavourably by the opposition. What must be done to change this image and representation? A good place to start would be to examine the various reports which emanate after the elections regarding the government media and implement the recommendations. If not, the label will remain regardless who is in government. Professionalism has a heavy price. It cannot be compromised. Maybe, governments should not have any controlling influence over media houses.
Regards,
Shamshun Mohamed
