Day Two of Mash Handicap Squash tournament

Kaieteur News – Returning to the Georgetown Club Court (GTC) for Day Two action of the Bounty Farm’s 2023 Mashramani Handicap Squash tournament, which was deemed an even more exciting day for squash; starting off the day with the first two Open-category matches between Dennis Dias and Zackary Persaud, also Daniel Ince and Ashley De Groot.

Ince picked up his second win in the 2023 Mash handicap competition coming back from a 1-0 deficit; to command the second and the third games, winning 5-15, 15-10, 15-9 over a well poised De Groot, as Dennis Dias copped his first win against Persaud defeating him 15-7, 11-15, 15-10.

Followed by four Category A matches, Brenno De Silva defeated Jnae Singh 15-8, 8-15, 15-8, Blake Edwards defeated Emily Fung-A-Fat two games to love, Justin Ten Pow came from behind to defeat Avian Wade 5-15, 15-14, 15-14 and Demetri Lowe held Justin Gorbedan 2-0(15-11, 15-9).

Anna Perreira out of Canada, suffered her second loss in the competition against Kirsten Gomes as he (Gomes) left ‘no room for error’ winning the first two games in delightful manner in another Open-category match (15-12, 15-11).

However, the experienced Ashley Khalil proved to be too good for Avinash Oditt, trashing him two games to love (15-6, 15-10). While Louis Da Silva orchestrated an easy win over her senior Chad De Abreu from Canada (15-12, 15-11). Alex Arjoon also had a good night defeating veteran David Fernandes 15-13, 15-12.

At this stage there were one Category A match left for the evening, followed by ten Open matches; first up in the Category A match between Jeremy Ten Pow and Jacob McDonald, Jeremy got the better of McDonald after commanding the first two games (15-11, 15-10).

While Nicholas Narain was triumphant over the skilled Jason van Dijk to deliver a masterful third game win, Narain winning 15-10, 8-15, 15-7. Lydia Fraser defeated Nickita Hicks 14-15, 15-12, 15-13 and Jonathan Antczak nailed Demetrius De Abreu two games to love.

Deje Dias picked up his second win over Brian Edwards (15-13, 15-12), while Shiloh Agedago and Lloyd Fung-A-Fat captured their first wins of the competition.

Meanwhile, both Taylor Fernandes and Josh Verwey came back on day two to ‘settle the scores’ as Fernandes defeated Steven Xavier (15-10, 15-11), while young Verwey defeated Tian Edwards (15-13, 15-11). Javid Rahaman and Jason-Ray Khalil closed the evening in fine style; both parties defeated their opponent’s two games to love.

The tournament is sponsored by the Bounty Farm Limited. The tournament continued with Day Three action from 14:20hrs yesterday. It concludes tomorrow, Sunday.
