Dear Editor,
The $ 781.9 billion budget for 2023 is dubbed the largest budget in Guyana’s history. Last year’s budget stood at $552.9 billion yet the poor in Guyana felt the brunt of inflation. People went hungry like never before. The price of local produce was unaffordable: bora and pumpkin were fit to be only consumed by the wealthy. I will not elaborate because all Guyanese are aware of last year’s suffering.
Guyana is an oil rich nation and the world sees it as the fastest growing economy. Its population is way under a million people but the reality of life in Guyana, even today, is that of a dirt-poor country where the majority of people are poor and live off of $1200 dollars a day (US$5.73). This year’s budget is primarily about building infrastructure and that’s where the con is; where the hustle will enrich PPP oligarchs, their families, friends and cronies. Guyana, under the PPP is the most corrupt country on this planet.
The poor man’s dismal reality will worsen in 2023 while government officials will build more casinos, lush hotels, apartment buildings and resorts in the names of unknown businessmen. Billions in contracts to build roads etc., will go to handpicked PPP contractors with huge cutbacks that will go directly into the pockets of Jagdeo, Ali Nandlall, Dharmlall and other PPP government ministers. The PPP sycophants, lackeys and cronies will take to social media to ‘cuss’ about us not appreciating progress while they themselves live in squalor. This is the biggest budget ever to enrich a selected few in government. It will be the heist of the century where by the time we are ready to go into the next elections, one Minister will be able to secretly fund the entire election campaign and another will have enough money to offer to buy every one of our supporters. A revolution will happen in Guyana as the poor of all ethnicities shout enough is enough. We have to save Guyana from these glorified thieves.
Regards,
Sincerely yours
