Kaieteur News – An emerging local customised apparel business, called ‘K.O.M.I.C’, has started on a mission to offer members of the public customised classy but comfortable wear.

KOMIC meaning ‘Kingdom Outfits Made In Class’ was founded in 2020 by a young woman name Makila Thoman who officially launched the business in March this year.
Thoman, who hails from Kitty, Georgetown, said during an interview with this publication that it was her love for creating and building things that inspired her to even consider starting the venture. Most importantly, she said, the move was an inspiration from God.
She noted that “As a creative, almost everything inspires me but my main inspiration comes from God so He got me to launch out.” KOMIC, she said, provides teens, young adults and adults with customised wears.
Thoman mentioned that since taking the step to launch out, her support system has been tremendous. Family members, friends, and very loyal customers, she noted, have been motivating and encouraging her to do even more, and she has been doing so.
Having been in business for just a short while, the young woman shared that one of the main challenges she has faced was delivering customised hoodies to clients in Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad during the pandemic. But with the operation of the airlines now fully back to normalcy that problem has been resolved, she noted.
“While the pandemic had affected shipping and deliveries in the past, it was also the birth of the vision to be the first business to create customised hoodies and sweats in Guyana. If we weren’t locked indoors who knows if I would be here today as the young CEO of a thriving business,” Thoman added.

With a lot in store for this emerging business, this young entrepreneur said that her long-term goal is to one day be named among some of the greats around the world, one country at a time with “our quality products.”
Thoman, who wants to show that her country too can produce quality products, said that young entrepreneurs, being at the centre of growth and change, have a great deal to offer and thus can affect society immensely with each product and service they provide.
She added, “I believe that entrepreneurs play a key role in society, simply because we are innovators of the future and present.”
