– might be missing relative of Surinamese family
Kaieteur News – On Saturday, the skeletal remains, believed to be that of a man, were discovered on the Eversham foreshore, Corentyne, Berbice. The discovery was made by an Eversham villager who contacted the police.
It is believed that the remains may be the relative of a Surinamese family. The man, Wazir Shaw, a Surinamese fisherman, went missing earlier this month. Shaw, according to reports, had left to go fishing on August 9, 2022 in Suriname waters.
Sarika Nesah said that Shaw, her uncle, had gone fishing alone but never returned. After days passed, she said that the family grew worried about him and alerted Suriname authorities. A search party was formed and just a few days ago, the fishing vessel he left in was found floating in Guyana waters.
Nesah said that when news broke about the discovery of the skeletal remains, they became suspicious that it could be that of her uncle’s.
She revealed that her uncle had an accident a while back and the doctors had placed steel in one of his legs. As such, they are hoping that this will help relatives determine if indeed it his remains.
Police are investigating.
