Kaieteur News – A collective effort by the bowlers handed Berbice a 10-wicket victory over The Select XI when the Guyana Cricket Board senior women’s inter county 50-over competition continued yesterday.
Tremayne Smartt triggered the slide with four wickets in her opening spell after the Select XI were inserted at Providence. She had Kareena Smith (00), Renata Liverpool (00) and Realeanna Grimmond (00) caught before uprooting the stumps of Sarah Amin (01) to reduce the Select XI to 15-4. Grimmond disturbed the stumps of Kimberly Sookdeo (06), while Plaffiana Millington bowled Crystal Durant (01) as the Select XI continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Niveena Ramnauth top scored with 12 not out, while the other batters failed to get off the mark as the Select XI were bowled out for 40 in 17 overs. Smartt claimed 4-3 off four overs while Ashmini Munisar took 2-1 and Grimmond 2-3.
Berbice responded with 41 without loss in four overs. Grimmond struck three fours and one six in an unbeaten 24 off 13 balls while Katana Mentore made 16 not out with two fours off 12 balls.
