Kaieteur News – Former sportsman, administrator and enthusiast Samuel Ian Colin Ming was cremated following a final viewing between 10:00 and 13:00hrs at the Chapel of Merriman Funeral Home, Lime and Bent Streets, Werk-En-Rust, Georgetown, yesterday.
The former businessman, familiarly known as Ming, died on Friday last following a road accident with an ambulance, the day before. He was a former Golf champion and a lover of sports in general apart from serving as Vice President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG).
He was also a former Secretary of the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) with many years of service. The GSA had shared with the media, following his passing that he was also President of the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA).
The GSA highlighted that Colin Ming was one of the key persons responsible for the re-drafting of the associations constitution as well as the rules for the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships, which Guyana has dominated for many years. In addition, Ming was also an excellent Squash Coach.
According to the NexGen Golf Academy (NGA), one of Colin’s overriding passions was the promotion of sports among youths, especially those in need and it was in that spirit he donated hundreds of Golf clubs to the NGA for the school programme.
In a correspondence to the media, NGA had noted that, “Today and in the years to come, thousands of children will benefit from his unselfish generosity. But, he gave not only material things but that which was more important– his time and knowledge– starting a Kids Camp at the Academy last year”.
He leaves to mourn his wife Paula Ann Ming, three children, Giselle Ann Ming-Ramlogan, Saralise Ann Mariska Ming and Samuel Ian Colin Ming apart from many family, relatives and friends.
