GCS in fundraising drive to buy shoes for B’ce Athletes outside Payless Store in NA today

Kaieteur News – The Guyana Committee of Services (GCS), which was founded on July 15, 2016, is today embarking on another fund raising drive in New Amsterdam, Guyana’s oldest Town, with the launching of their ‘Stickers’ project.
Today the (GSC) will be selling stickers with the words ‘One people, one Nation, one destiny… I love Guyana, I support Sports and Culture’.
The team, which arrived in Region 6 yesterday, will sell the Stickers outside of the New Amsterdam, Berbice branch of Payless Variety Store at 14 Pit Street from 10:00 AM.
Payless stores can also be found at 42 Wellington Street in Georgetown and at 28 Stelling Road Vreed-en-Hoop West Demerara.
The proceeds from this project will go towards assisting in buying running shoes for athletes in the Ancient County.
According the Spokes Person for the group, popular Guyanese comedian Lyndon ‘Jumbie’ Jones, the Stickers, which are very patriotic, are being sold for $250 ($500 for two) and the money gained from this venture will be used to buy running shoes.
“We will use the money to buy running shoes for all eligible athletes. I use the word eligible because you don’t want to give anybody the shoes who will use it on the Road, sell it or under-utilize it. We are hoping to connect with the clubs so the names of these Athletes will come through the Clubs because we want people who are serious about their athletic careers,” explained Jones.
“We are not discriminating, we are giving each and every one…. we know it will be a couple hundred well…how much ever it takes because we are getting a friend, Peter Clarke, a Real Estate Agent in America who will donate some money, while Andy Medas King (Level one USATF Coach) will put some money as well.
Payless Varity Store will also contribute and whatever we raise through the sale of the Stickers will be put towards this project to buy all the running shoes,” Jones continued.
According to Jones the GCS is already in the process of sourcing the shoes.
“We want to make it a complete thing and give everybody who need them. We are trying to get top quality shoes as well not just any running shoes.”
“The Stickers also have the GCS logo on and people can stick them on their cars, buses, doors, windows, offices, brief cases…anywhere to show your support for sports and culture in Guyana. We are looking forward to, if not all Guyanese, buy two, business people could buy a portion and give to your staff, take a set and share them out free to their customers and clients…. however we can get them off,” Jones said.
He disclosed that the aim is to print thousands of Stickers with the intention of selling them to all Guyanese.
“We have got a reputation of completing projects that we undertake. We have done a raffle and given away a million dollars with prize of a Motor Cycle, Televisions and Refrigerators.
We have hosted Dinners and staged Events with Dwayne Stevenson coming to Guyana,” Jones concluded.
The GCS is an Organisation born out of the need by ordinary people for solutions and hope in times of distress.
The Committee is a non-profit, apolitical organisation that engages in humanitarian gestures, particularly in situations in which persons involved in Sports and Culture are adversely affected by the vicissitudes of life.
