A man who was found beaten and barely conscious in his yard, on August 14, died on Wednesday last while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Dead is Romeo Roopnarine , 42, of Supply, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, (ECD).
Roopnarine’s demise comes exactly seven days after his assailant, Linden McCurdy, also of Supply, Mahaica, was initially charged for attempted murder. He appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate Court.
The charge alleged that McCurdy attempted to murder Roopnarine by beating him during an alleged argument.
On August 14, Roopnarine’s brother visited his home and discovered him lying in his backyard “beaten beyond recognition”.
The now dead man’s brother had picked him up and with the help of another rushed him to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was treated and later referred to GPHC. While in the hospital, Roopnarine was able to relate to relatives and identified his attacker to the police.
McCurdy was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.
Investigators had stated that the assailant was at Roopnarine’s home when they had a misunderstanding.
