In light of the novel Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) continues to fumigate and sanitize the city in order to safeguard the citizens.
According to the City Mayor, Ubraj Narine, Water Street was fumigated Wednesday night and either Kitty or Robb Street was fumigated last night. This exercise commenced in March 2020, and it is aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19.
For the past few nights, Stabroek Square, Bourda Market and other areas around Georgetown were fumigated.
Recently, M&CC closed all of its Maternal and Child Welfare Clinics after a worker tested positive for COVID-19…a few vendors in the Stabroek Market have also tested positive for the virus.
The initiative to clean and fumigate the city is led by Director of the Solid Waste Dept., Walter Narine, in collaboration with the Guyana Fire Service.
They had previously cleaned the markets using water that contained ten percent bleach and ten percent Jeyes Fluid.
