(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) will soon spend just over $46 million to rehabilitate the Amelia’s Ward Treatment Plant in Region 10.
According to the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) $46,264,000 was awarded to AMIC General Contracting Services.
Kaieteur News understands that GWI has been rehabilitating several treatment plants across the country aimed at improving service and water supply for communities.
Meanwhile, GWI on Wednesday via a notice stated that communities including South Amelia’s Ward, Central Amelia’s Ward, Cinderella City, Amelia’s Ward, Old Kara Kara, Obama Drive South, New Central Amelia’s Ward, and Phase 3 Central Amelia’s Ward that are served by the Amelia’s Ward Water treatment plant will experience service disruption today due to ongoing works.
“There is a planned interruption which is scheduled to facilitate crucial maintenance that will replace defective booster pumps at the treatment plant. Customers in the aforementioned areas will experience a low level of service from 9:00AM to 6:00PM on April 16, 2026. The GWI technical team will work to complete this activity during the specified timeframe,” GWI said in its notice.
The water company is encouraging the public to report water disruptions or visibly damaged GWI pipelines and other infrastructure to telephone number: 227-8701.
