(Kaieteur News) – The decomposed body of a mixed-race female, identified as 73-year-old Carlyn Greaves, was discovered on Tuesday about 17:00hrs at a koker located in Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara.
Police said that Greaves had been reported missing from her home at the Sparendaam Police Station on Friday April 10, 2026 about 21:42hrs.
The body was identified on Wednesday April 15, 2026 by the woman’s 27-year-old nephew of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that an alarm was raised after a body was seen floating in the koker. Police responded to the report and on arrival, observed the body in the canal on the southern side of the first koker door,” police said in a previous statement.
The remains were eventually retrieved from the canal and examined. A heart-shaped tattoo was observed on the right thigh area. There were also suspected fish bite marks on the left shoulder.
The body was taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead. Subsequently it was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
