Regarding the fiasco at GECOM, specifically the premature declaration of results, Guyanese are asked to note that it is a chargeable offence for a GECOM official to make a false declaration. Refer to the following section:

MISCELLANEOUS ELECTION OFFENCES
137. (1) Every person who: – (i) in any Form, or in any certificate on the reverse side thereof, makes any declaration or statement that he does not believe to be true, or has reasonable grounds to believe to be false, in any material respect; shall be guilty of a misdemeanour, and be liable on conviction—
(i) if he is an election officer or other person exercising powers or performing duties connected with or relating to the conduct of elections, to a fine of sixty-five thousand dollars and to imprisonment for two years;
