Feb 26, 2020 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
With reference to the letter captioned “I suggest the GNBS puts its house in order” in the Kaieteur News dated Monday, February 24, 2020, the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), as a Government Agency, would like to state that it has its house in order.
The GNBS has always strived to maintain an orderly disposition through astute planning and execution of its activities to meet the needs of its stakeholders.
In this regard, as of February 01, 2020, the GNBS commenced the monitoring of imported electrical equipment and fittings for quality and labelling requirements based on thirty-one Compulsory National Standards.
Monitoring by the GNBS is done only for products imported and offered for sale, and this is done at the ports of entry, warehouses and sale outlets.
Therefore, the role of the GNBS is not to monitor electrical items already in use or installed by contractors. Monitoring the installation and use of electrical equipment and fittings is a function of the Government Electrical Inspectorate (GEI), which falls under the purview of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.
Hence, the GNBS strongly recommends that the writer of the above-mentioned letter seek a discourse with the GEI, so that the necessary steps could be taken to have his concerns addressed.
For further information, visit the Guyana National Bureau of Standards at Exhibition Site, Sophia, or its website: www.gnbsgy.org or call 219-0062, 219-0065, 219-0066.
Yours sincerely,
Guyana National Bureau of Standards
Lloyd David
