Founder of Black Pearl Football Club (BPFC- March 4, 1990), Peter Gulliver was on Sunday last recognised for his contributions to the club and sport at a special reception held at the GFC ground.

As part of the celebrations, three matches were played between Pele Football Club (PFC) – where Gulliver’s coaching career was launched (1972-started as a medical personnel) and blossomed before he formed BPFC – played the latter at the Under-15 and 20 levels and was triumphant in both matches.
The U15 match saw Pele winning 4-1 while the U20s won 3-1. The other encounter was a senior clash between BPFC and a Veteran line up with the former triumphing by the lone goal of that match.
Following the on field action, players, administrators and special invitees made gravitated to the upper flat of the pavilion where the reception was held and Gulliver was presented with a plaque and monetary gift.
Many persons including past and present players of PFC and BPFC who were taught the game by Gulliver reminisced on his contributions to them and the club which has made them better players and members of society. Discipline and respect were two of the pillars that Coach Gulliver ensured formed part of his modus operandi.
Coach Gulliver expressed thanks to all for allowing him the opportunity of serving and being of service to them over the years at the PFC and BPFC noting that he was the architect of many players making it to the national grid at the junior and senior levels.
Current President of BPFC, Lomell Johnson who spearheaded the activity noted that persons remembered Gulliver for his unselfish and unwavering service he rendered to the club and sport and in many instances, without any form of recognition. Gulliver he noted commended BPFC for the initiative to recognise him.
“We need not wait until someone dies to acknowledge their achievements and contributions, so as a club, we took the decision to say thank you to Coach Gulliver for his contributions to this entity and to say so in our own small way. Black Pearl FC would also like to say thanks to all who supported, we want to express sincere gratitude, especially to the Pele FC and Ultra Water for ensuring that the players and officials were kept hydrated on and off the field of play.”
