Following months of preparation, the stage is set for much excitement tomorrow when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) stages its annual Boxing Day horserace meet at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.

The action tomorrow, Boxing Day, promises to be keenly contested and fans heading to the Corentyne will be in for a treat.
Seven races have been carded for day with the feature contest being the Metro Million Mile which is open to all horses. This event has attracted a number of top horses and according to KMTC Chairman Cecil Kennard fans will be given much to cheer about.
Kennard told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that the track is in fine shape and the weather on the Corentyne has been favourable. “We did some renovation to the facility; a number of overseas based Guyanese have returned for this event and I expect a large turnout,” he added.
“I expect all races to be keenly contested since all the major stables will be taking part including Jumbo Jet, Fazal Habibulla, ChaFoon, Chris Jagdeo, Nand Persaud and Shakalin Racing Stable.
The main event will see the winner taking home $1,000,000, the runner up $500,000, third place $250,000 and fourth place $125,000. Lucky Star of West Berbice headlines the number of horses registered for this event; tough challenges are expected to come from Vera’s Finally, Just Call Me Boss, Tom Bird, Setting Star, TNT, Golden Blue Echo, Golden Dancer, Goodwill Boy and Not This Time.
Other events listed are L-Non Earner for a distance of five furlongs and carries a top prize of $130,000 and the runner up $65,000. H and Lower for seven furs and fetches a winning purse of $250,000 with the runner up $125,000. Two-year old Maiden for a distance of six furs and will see the champion pocketing $200,000 and the runner up $100,000. L-Non Winner for a winning purse of $150,000 and second place $75,000; J and K Lower which will see the winner receiving $200,000 and the runner up $100,000, and L-Open in which the winner will take home $170,000 and second place $85,000.
The races will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and entries were closed on December 16. No late entries will be accepted.
