Police are yet to charge the 34-year-old bus driver in the deadly Nismes, West Bank Demerara crash that claimed four lives on November 30, last.
The driver, Compton Bharrat, has since been released on station bail.
This is according to Traffic Chief, Linden Isles, who explained that the police are still awaiting statements from the remaining victims who are still hospitalised.
Isles stated that in order to build a concrete case, they require the statements from all the parties involved before they can proceed to the courts.
But this has been delayed since the victims are unable to relate to police what happened at the time of the accident due to the severe injuries they sustained.
Isles assured that as soon as those statements are obtained, charges will be instituted on the driver.
Bharrat had turned himself in at the La Grange Police Station, five days after the deadly smash-up to admit that he was driver. He had escaped from the accident without a scratch. He claimed he panicked and fled the scene.
Police had initially fingered 29-year-old Hensley Alleyne as the driver but stepped up their investigations after persons reported that there was another person behind the wheel.
It was later discovered that Alleyne was merely the conductor at the time of the incident.
The men reportedly switched places hours before the incident. (Photo saved as and caption: Seconds before the deadly Nismes smash-up occurred)
