(Kaieteur News) – A security guard was shot but successfully thwarted an armed robbery at a Superbet outlet on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, early Sunday after engaging two gunmen in a dramatic exchange of gunfire that forced the suspects to flee, abandoning both their getaway motorcycle and their robbery plan.
Reports are that the bandits attacked early Sunday. The shootout between the security officer and the bandits was caught on CCTV footage.
Footage showed the bandits pulling up on a motorcycle. The pillion rider got off pulled out a gun, cranked it and began robbing a few patrons at the establishment.
The security officer was dressed in a hoodie when the bandits attacked.
The camera captured the security guard reaching into his pocket and grabbing a weapon.
He cranked the gun and then opened fire.
The pillion rider fired back and during the exchange of gunfire the bandit riding the bike abandoned it and started running away. The pillion rider joined him and ran behind.
They escaped abandoning their robbery plan.
Kaieteur learnt that the security guard was hit.
Up to press time, the police were yet to release a statement on the matter.
