The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) International Race meet dubbed ‘Clash of Champions’ sped off yesterday at the South Dakota Circuit with qualifying sessions which was curtailed by surprise showers.
At the Timehri based race track, the men from Barbados had a good day with teenage sensation Zane Maloney taking the pole position in the anticipated SR3 Radicals showdown with a best time of 32.748s, while his countryman in Mark Maloney, who holds the track record, was on top in Group 4 with a time of 36.585s ahead of Guyanese Andrew King who registered a time of 37.315.
Brothers Ahmed and Suleman Esu both of the ‘land of the flying fish’ qualified in pole for groups two and three, respectively.
Team Mohamed’s British Duo of Daniel Linfoot and Richard Cooper qualified in pole for the superstock and supersport classes respectively, while Guyanese Dwayne Caesar had the best time in the bikes’ street class.
Much action is expected today with the 23-race programme scheduled to speed off from 08:30hrs sharp with clear skies forecasted.
Apart from signature radicals’ showpiece, a full field of competitors is expected for the local Choke Starlet Cup, Miracle Optical Street and Prem’s Electrical Sports Tuner classes along with groups 2, 3 and 4.
The championship winners of the Choke Starlet Cup, Miracle Optical Street Tuner and Prem’s Electrical Sports Tuner are set to pocket $500,000 each.
Admission to the venue costs $2000 and fans will be able to access the access the goose neck grand stand for an additional cost of $2000.
