The Corona futsal tournament, which is being contested at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, has seen the initial 24 teams being reduced to 12 following two nights of elimination matches.
The twelve teams that are through to the round are: Tucville, North East La Penitence, Leopold Street, Back Circle, Sparta Boss, Bent Street, California Square, West Front Road, Mocha, Future Stars, Beacons and Tiger Bay.
On Tuesday night, the second and final night of the elimination round, California Square defeated Pele 2-1, West Front Road beat GFC 5-3, Mocha got the better of Broad Street 4-2, while Future Stars brushed aside Order and Discipline 6-0.
In the penultimate match, the seasoned Sophia side lost to newcomers Beacons 4-1, while the feature games produced much entertainment with Tiger Bay thrashing Eastveldt 8-2.
The groupings are yet to be decided by the organisers.
The teams that come out on top in the group stages will be awarded as follows: first $40,000; second $30,000; third $15,000, and fourth $10,000, as an added incentive. In the grand finale, first place winner will receive $500,000, while second place will pocket $250,000. Third place will cop a $125,000 prize, while fourth will have to settle for $75,000.
