Phone thief gets a second chance

Twenty-one year old Isaiah Daniels of Lot 9 Second Street, Alberttown had luck on his side. He was given a second chance on Friday and was released on $2,000 bail for a simple larceny charge.
Daniels pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It was alleged that on October 6, last, at Hinck Street, he stole one Samsung cell phone valued at $48,000 from Jamal Barker.
Gordon Mansfield, the prosecutor, stated that on the day in question, Daniels asked to make a phone call from Barker’s cell phone. Barker complied with the request. After receiving the phone, Daniels simply ran away.
Upon being asked if he has anything different to say about the facts presented, Daniels responded that he took the phone around the corner to put in phone credit. As he was making his call, police ranks randomly picked him up and took him to the police station.
He indicated that he was later released in the afternoon where he went to a friend’s house to spend the night. According to Daniels, his friend often accommodates different persons at his home. He said that he left the phone in the hall room to charge and he went to sleep.
When he woke in the morning, he found that the phone was gone and when he inquired, he was told someone may have taken it.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan before passing sentence advised Daniels that if he doesn’t have something, he should stay without instead of borrowing, because often times you would have to pay for two.
Daniels was released on $2,000 bail and is to make his next court appearance on December 14, 2018 and he should have the whole amount or at least half of the amount to repay Barker for his phone.
