A search spearheaded by police in ‘B’ Division together with prison officers at the New Amsterdam Prison unearthed several
illegal items. The search was conducted between 6:30 and 9:30 hrs yesterday.
Among the items discovered were 14 cell-phones, five improvised weapons, 12 grams of cannabis, 22 lighters, 12 chargers, two make shift weapons, two SIM cards, 11 earpieces and a quantity of wires.
Additionally, in ‘F’ Division police ranks yesterday morning about 06:30 hrs stopped and searched a motor lorry at Seven Miles Potaro and found concealed, 333 grams of cannabis and 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Two persons have been detained and are assisting with the investigation.
Meanwhile, ranks of the Guyana Police Force and Guyana Defence Force on Friday at about 21:00h during a joint patrol commanded by a Captain at Eteringbang Landing, Cuyuni River , arrested a male foreign national after he was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol, two magazines and fifteen live ammunition.
The 29-year-old Spanish speaking illegal immigrant is being processed for court.
