Two men, Rocky Harvey and Ivor Hughes, were yesterday hauled before the court and slapped with three charges related to a burglary spree on the West Bank of Demerara.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges, which were read to them by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on November 28, last, at Beau Voisin, Canal No.1, West Bank Demerara, they broke and entered the home of Ayanna Isaacs and stole a number of items, valued $136, 700.
Moreover, it was alleged that between November 27 and 28, last, at Parfaite Harmony, West Bank Demerara, they broke and entered the home of Shondelle Chichester and stole a number of items valued at $334,804.
Finally, it was alleged that on November 28 at Beau Voisin, Canal No.1, West Bank Demerara, they broke and entered the home of Ayanna Isaacs and stole one Samsung cell phone valued at $35,000 property of Jamal Bristol.
Harvey informed the court that he is 21 years of age, resides at 97 Sarah Lodge, West Coast Demerara, and does gold mining as his source of income. Hughes, on the other hand, told the court that he is 27, resides at Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, and is a labourer by profession.
Police facts stated that on November 28, 2018 at 03:30 hrs, all the items were recovered as they were found in a vehicle that the men were in when they were arrested by police ranks after being intercepted at the Demerara Harbour Bridge. The prosecution further objected to bail based on the serious nature of the allegation, the prevalence of the offence, and the facts presented.
After listening to the prosecutor, Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan instructed that the duo be remanded and they should make their next court appearance on December 13 at the Wales Magistrate’s Court.
