A resident of Charlestown, Georgetown has come forth to raise concerns about two utility poles viewed as a potential threat to inhabitants of the area. The posts are located alongside each other and strapped to the fence of Charlestown Secondary School.
According to reports received, one of the posts fell some years ago, but was repositioned and strapped. A new post was later planted, but the old post continued to be of service.
Kaieteur News understands that the matter was allegedly reported to Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) who told the person reporting that the wires on the utility pole belonged to Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GTT).
It was also reported that the complainant attempted several times to have the issue dealt with, and was told that someone would look into the matter, but to date no one has done anything about the situation.
The complainant emphasized that the wires attached to the utility poles would often spark, along with the fact that wires running from the poles to houses are very tightly drawn.
It was further highlighted that residents of the area suffered losses of their household appliances, which were damaged as a result of surges.
The concerned citizen stated that he is not only concerned about himself and his safety, but that of everyone around, especially the children who would traverse the area.
