A construction worker was yesterday remanded to prison after he was slapped with three charges in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Charles Stoby was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on 22 October 2018, at Gordon Street, Kitty, armed with a knife, he robbed Kester Joseph of one gold chain valued at $130,000 and other items, all totalled at $536,000.
It was further alleged that on 5 November 2018, at Alexander Street, Kitty, Stoby had in his possession two 9mm ammunition while not being the holder of a firearm licence.
Also it was alleged that on the same day, at the same location, Stoby had in his possession one 9mm pistol while not being the holder of a firearm licence.
After listening to the charges that were read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, Stoby entered a not guilty plea.
Stoby, who was unrepresented by an attorney, informed the court that he is 30 years of age and resides at Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
The Police prosecutor objected to bail given the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. It was also pointed out that a firearm was used and the defendant was positively identified by the victim.
It was highlighted that the defendant was cautioned where he admitted to the crime and signed to the statement. It was also noted that at the time of the arrest, the victim’s cell phone and watch were retrieved from Stoby.
After listening to the prosecution, the Chief Magistrate instructed that Stoby be remanded and that he make his next court appearance on November 23.
