David Bernard, a juice vendor, was slapped with three charges yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrate Courts.
It was alleged that on November 1, 2018 at Broad Street Georgetown, he had in his possession one 9mm pistol when he was not the holder of a firearm license.
That same date at Broad Street, Georgetown, Bernard had in his possession 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition when he was not the holder of a firearm license.
Also, it was alleged that on November 1, 2018 at 17 Broad Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Jessica Bell.
Bernard, after listening to all three charges that were read to him by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, entered a not guilty plea.
The police stated that on the day in question, Bell who is the mother of two of Bernard’s children and who has one on the way, went to get her cell phone to make a call to her mother-in-law. She heard a loud noise and during her inspection of the source the defendant dealt her one slap to the face. The matter was subsequently reported.
Acting upon the report of the violence, police ranks intercepted Bernard. As the police were approaching, Bernard pushed his hands into his crouch took out the gun and ammunitions and threw it towards a zinc fence. The articles were retrieved and the defendant was told of the offences and was later charged.
The Police Prosecutor had no objections to bail for the assault charge, however for the other two charges objections were made based on the seriousness and nature of the offences.
Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman granted bail for the assault charge to the tune of $20,000 and the defendant was remanded to prison until November 8, for the other two charges.
