The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) yesterday opened a single bid for the Feasibility Design for the Linden Mabura Hills Road Upgrade and River Crossing at Kurupukari.
This is a part of collaboration between the UK Government and the Government of Guyana where some 52$Billion was secured for developmental projects. One of these major projects is the Linden to Lethem Road, which incorporates the Kurupukari crossing. The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has indicated that the first phase of the Linden-Lethem Road Project is expected to include the upgrade of approximately 122.5 km of road between Linden and Mabura Hill (including drainage) and construction of a new single or dual lane fixed bridge across the Essequibo River at the Kurupukari ferry crossing (approximately 600m long).

There were just two tenders opened for the second phase of works on the Construction of the Tabatinga Bridge Approach in Upper Takatu – Upper Essequibo. The Tabatinga Bridge, which links Lethem and Tabatinga, two villages within Region 9, was constructed to the tune of $60M only to become swamped mere months after. The wooden bridge was built with lumber and with uprights encased in concrete.
