Ivor Thom, 44, a labourer of Corentyne, Berbice who has been charged with murdering Vishram Mohabir, 19, of 253 Ramphal Street, Williamsburg Corentyne, during an altercation at a wash bay will have to face a judge and jury.
This decision was made following the completion of a preliminary inquiry conducted by Magistrate Renita Singh in the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
Prosecutor Inspector Althea Solomon called 12 witnesses during the trial, including three police officers and the doctor who conducted the postmortem examination.
Thom has a long list of misdemeanors.
The court was told that on Sunday August, 27, 2017 at the High Grade wash bay along the Williamsburg Public Road a fight broke out during a “Back to school” Bar B Que and Lime.
During the altercation, Thom reportedly stabbed Kunal Singh, a 16-year-old who was at the party on both of his arms. Singh’s brother Vishram Mohabir who was also at the event noticed the commotion and ran to his brother’s assistance. Mohabir was then stabbed to the neck and chest.
Police ranks who were nearby apprehended Thom, while Kunal and his severely injured brother, Mohabir, were taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where Mohabir succumbed to his injuries.
The alleged murder weapon (a knife) was retrieved from the scene of the crime.
