GCB Marketing Manager Raj Singh displays the magazine in the presence of GCB Secretary, Anand Sanasie.
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) launched the latest edition of ‘The Guyana Cricketer’ Magazine on Wednesday night at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. Marketing Manger of the GCB Raj Singh gave an overview of the magazine which is being distributed free of cost.
Secretary of the GCB Anand Sanasie said this year’s edition is being done to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the GCB and captures everything that would have happened throughout the year including statistics and also targets cricket development. He called on sponsors for their continued support.
Former international cricket commentator Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira briefly recalled his boyhood days adding that his passion for cricket developed at a tender age. President of Cricket West Indies (CWI) Dave Cameron in his Foreword congratulated the GCB and its affiliates for their continuous work and commitment they have shown towards the development of cricket product. “You are now at the ripe age of 75 years and that maturity represents a significant contribution to the development of the game in your territory”, he wrote.
”Over the last five years, the number of competitions won is a clear indication of the commitment, dedication and execution of a work programme which keep the players, administrations and supporters at the top of their game.
As president of the CWI, I am always impressed with the fact that Guyana cricket brand continues to strengthen and is also producing a wide range of male and female cricketers, for all formats and levels, in and out of the region. That level of continuous work, on and off the field, is truly commendable,” Cameron stated.
The magazine also includes messages from Minister of Social Cohesion Dr. George Norton, Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin and GCB President (ag) Fizul Bacchus as well as a report from Sanasie.
The book captures the GCB 2017 awards ceremony and carries features with national youth players Sheldon Charles who hails from Region 1, but now resides at Lima, Essequibo Coast, Kevlon Anderson of Berbice and DCC’s Raymond Perez.
Columns by Ian Haynes on former West Indies off-spinner Lance Gibbs, an article entitled ‘Reflections’ by ‘Reds ‘Perreira, ‘My Guyana All Time XI by John Ramsingh, History of Cricket Administration in Guyana by Charwayne Walker, Cricket in Guyana by Stephen Camacho, Guyana’s Test cricketers by Rajiv Bisnauth and 2018 cricket calendar are all included in this year’s edition.
