With the aim of professionalising football here, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) on Friday last became the first Member Association of CONCACAF top adopt the FIFA Domestic Transfer Matching System (DTMS).
The first group of officials exposed to the DTMS training which was facilitated by three experienced FIFA Officials at Olympic house were federation secretariat staff and Member Associations representatives which included Upper Demerara, East Bank, West Demerara, Bartica, Essequibo/Pomeroon, East Demerara and Berbice. Friday’s final session catered for Club Representatives.
The facilitators, Maria Stracke (Training & Support Coordinator), Hector Narvarro (Legal Counsel TMS Compliance) and Semira Jawdat (Project Coordinator) took the participants through the all day session where they were lectured to as well were able to do mock transfers to get a feel of how the process is done.
A quiz was also done at the end of the day to test the participants newly acquired knowledge of FIFA DTMS which is a system developed by FIFA TMS to provide an online platform for domestic transfers and to compliment the International Transfer Matching System (ITMS).TMS, Transfer Matching System was established by FIFA to transform the international transfer market.
TMS provides a digital standard process; centralization of all transfers and related documents; transparency of all payments; efficient information flow within the association.
Benefits of the system: Increases transparency and improves the credibility and standing of the transfer system; Helps safeguard the protection of minors; Provides associations and clubs with a web-based data information system designed to administer and monitor international and domestic transfers.
During the opening ceremony, GFF President Wayne Forde declared that it is the vision of the federation to professionalise football and to achieve this, the body will invest the time and energy towards accomplishing this. Forde also noted that it would be done in a structured and transparent manner.
Project Coordinator Semira Jawdat noted that it is a new chapter for the federation and its members associations stating that Guyana is the first MA of CONCACAF to adopt the DTMS. Her colleague, Maria Stracke echoed her sentiments positing that it was a big achievement.
There are some 9,800 active ITMS users worldwide representing 7,000 participating clubs from 211 Member Associations, 6 Confederations and 4 FIFA Departments. There are over 4,000 active DTMS users representing 11 MAs – Iran, Cambodia; Ecuador; Nigeria, Malawi, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Sudan; Holland, Bulgaria; Guyana.
