A 43-year-old man who previously spent three years in prison for theft seems to not have learnt his lesson. Yesterday, he yet again appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for a similar offence, and this time he was sentenced to three months.
Shawn Peters, of Callender Street, Albouystown, pleaded guilty to the charge read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore, which stated on July 5, last, he broke into the property of Nizam Bishop, at Independent Boulevard, Georgetown, and stole two car batteries worth $64,000.
The defendant said that he sold the batteries and later used the money to smoke and gamble, and gave some to his girlfriend. He also told the court that the car wash business at which he is employed, pays little, and all the crimes he has committed has been to survive with his little daughter. He asked for leniency.
After listening to the defendant’s pleading, the magistrate imposed the aforementioned term of imprisonment.
