– as grandson and wife released on station bail
Detectives from Berbice hope that the body of an unknown man that was buried in 2015 may be a major clue in the disappearance and suspected murder of 76-year-old Percival Johnson.
The decomposing remains, which are to be exhumed today, were buried in the Hampshire Burial Ground after no one came forward to identify the victim.
The victim was reportedly found with brown boots on and a black bicycle nearby. Some of Johnson’s relatives say the bicycle and footwear match items that belonged to the missing pensioner.
Meanwhile, a grandson of Johnson’s and the grandson’s wife, who were held for Johnson’s disappearance have been released on substantial station bail.
Percival Johnson disappeared on April 13. It was only recently that the cold case was re-opened based on new information given by a relative, the new details led to the arrest of the man’s grandson and wife.
“They are not admitting that they played a part in his disappearance but they admitted to taking the money from the man after he went missing,” a senior police official said. Some $900,000 was reportedly taken from the missing man’s room.
Percival Johnson who was 76 at the time of his disappearance, lived at Lot 36 Sir David Street, Rose Hall Town with his grandson and grand daughter-in-law. The pensioner lived in the upper flat of the two storey wooden building while the couple lived in the bottom flat.
