(Kaieteur News) – The Centre for International and Border Studies (CIBS) has announced it will host a major international conference next month, bringing together a diverse assembly of global experts to address the shifting geopolitical and economic tides facing the region.
The two-day hybrid event, titled “Navigating The Future: Guyana, the Caribbean and Latin America in a Changing Global Environment,” is scheduled for May 14 and 15 at the Herdmanston Lodge in Georgetown.
As Guyana continues its rapid economic transformation, the CIBS conference aims to provide a critical platform for interrogating the complexities of the modern international order. The think-tank, which comprises academics, professionals, and practitioners from Latin America, the Caribbean, the United States, Asia, and Africa, intends for the agenda to focus heavily on regional integration, sustainable development, and the changing hemispheric geopolitical landscape.
The conference features an expansive roster of international presenters. Leading the discussions are notable figures including Dr. Bertrand Ramcharan, former United Nations official and current Chancellor of the University of Guyana, and Dr. Scott McDonald, a prominent U.S.-based academic. They will be joined by a heavy contingent from the University of the West Indies, including Dr. Kai-Ann Skeete, Dr. Marlon Anatol, and Dr. Jacqueline LaGuardia Martinez. Continental perspectives will be further bolstered by Brazilian academics Professor Paulo Correa of the Federal University of Amapá and Professor Ambere Freitas of Roraima.
Additional panelists slated for the event include Mr. Carl Greenidge, Dr. Ulric Trotz, Dr. Clement Henry, and Mr. Neville Bissember. The proceedings will be overseen by Dr. Mark Kirton, who currently serves as the Director of the think-tank. The hybrid format of the event is designed to facilitate broad participation, allowing for both in-person attendance at the Herdmanston Lodge and virtual engagement from international stakeholders and online participants.
