(Kaieteur News) – Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond on Tuesday commissioned the reconstructed $185 million Anna Regina Police Station in Region Two.
Improving policing services in the region, the new modern structure is expected to strengthen public safety, improve working conditions for officers, and provide more dignified support for members of the public.
Reconstructed by Builders Hardware General Supplies and Construction for $185,865,689, this newspaper understands that the station is equipped with male, female, juvenile, and isolation holding cells, along with specialised spaces such as a Child-Friendly Area and a Domestic Violence Interview and Waiting Room. It also includes key operational areas such as CID, Traffic, Enquiries, evidence storage, and living quarters for ranks.
According to information shared by the ministry, Minister Walrond in her remarks at the commissioning ceremony, said the new station is “a clear statement, of commitment, of investment, and of intent,” in ensuring the people of Pomeroon-Supenaam receive better policing and better public service.
The minister noted that the facility is designed to meet the realities of policing a growing region with dispersed communities, active commerce, and expanding economic activity.
She also highlighted the strong performance of Regional Division No. 2, which recorded a 39.2 percent reduction in crime and a 54.2 percent clear-up rate in 2025.
The minister added that the new station will help build on that momentum and improve the quality of policing throughout the region.
“Minister Walrond urged officers to maintain high standards of professionalism and called on residents to see the station as a community institution that belongs to them,” the ministry reported.
Further, the Home Affairs Ministry shared that the commissioning of the facility forms part of a wider push to upgrade security infrastructure in Region Two, alongside investments at Charity and the Anna Regina Divisional Headquarters.
