A 45-year-old woman was recently left in disbelief after she made checks at the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) to enquire about her contributions.
But, according to the woman, she was informed that there were no contributions there for her.
The woman, Shawndell Cort, in an interview with this publication stated that she worked at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), as a clerk in several departments.
The woman added that she started working at GPHC on October 1, 1995 and resigned on July 23, 2005 due to medical reasons.
From there she went on to work at different intuitions and it was only recently that she acquired a catering work at a church, which caused her to go into NIS.
The woman added that last month when she went into NIS she spoke with a clerk who asked her to provide her NIS card, which she did.
Cort stated that after the clerk punched in the numbers into the computer she had a look of amusement on her. She said when she inquired from the clerk of the problem; she was informed that they were no record of her being employed at GPHC, neither was there any NIS contribution.
She added that the clerk advised her to go back at GPHC and ask for a letter of employment for the period she claimed to have been employed there and take it back to her.
The woman added that while she thought this process would have been easy, it was proven most difficult.
The frustrated woman told this publication that she left NIS and proceeded to GPHC, where she met with a clerk in the personnel department.
She added that she explained to the clerk what someone at NIS had told her, that she needed to write a letter requesting a letter of employment and take it back to her so they can verify it.
She said that she took the letter back and handed it to the clerk and she was informed that they were going to contact her within five working days.
While venting frustration again, the woman added that she kept calling and visiting GPHC and was told that they are still looking for her documents.
The woman is asking that the relevant authorities launch an investigation into the matter.
