A Venezuelan national was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to face two charges of simple larceny.
Twenty-one-year-old, Moses Chappell, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus , and denied both charges after they were read to him.
The first charge alleged that on May 31 at Moruca, North West District, he stole one outboard engine valued $631,550 – property of Orlando Charles
It was further alleged that on May 31 at Aquaro, Moruca, North West District, he stole one boat valued $300,000 – property of Terrence Henry.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that both articles were recovered, however he objected to bail being granted to Chappell, citing that the man is not a Guyanese.
The prosecutor added that if bail is granted to the defendant he will not return to court for the trial.
The court heard that Chappell was staying at relatives in Guyana when he allegedly committed the offences.
Chappell was instructed to make his next court appearance on June 11.
