A 23-year-old man was yesterday ordered to undergo evaluation at the psychiatric ward after he allegedly attacked a motor vehicle, owned by a lawyer.
Zhovito Braithwaite, of 177 Layou Street, North Ruimveldt, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge of damage to property.
It was alleged that on April 29, last, at Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Braithwaite damaged an X-trail vehicle, owned by attorney Mark Reynolds. He was said to have damaged the car visor and other parts of the car. The damages totalled to $75,000.
Kim Braithwaite, the man’s mother, told the court that her son was unstable ever since he was 20 years old and that she does not know what triggered the illness. The man is a patient of Dr. Bhiro Harry at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
She further stated that he doesn’t take his medication anymore. After listening to the woman, the Magistrate ordered that her son undergo a psychiatric evaluation at the ward.
Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne, had no objection to bail being granted.
The defendant was granted bail in the sum of $35,000 and is expected to make his next court appearance on May 30.
